CAPCSD Committee Applications Are Now Closed

Applications for 2025 volunteers will open in January 2025.

 

CAPCSD is a volunteer-based organization that provides the best solution-centered support for CSD programs.  CAPCSD volunteers are the organization's backbone and help us serve our 350+ member programs and 4,000 faculty.

CAPCSD seeks members such as Chairs, Program Directors, Graduate Coordinators, Clinic Directors, Faculty, Deans, and Provosts. Committees range from involvement in conference planning, training and development, academic and clinical-focused initiatives to task force work on targeted topics.

All committee terms run for two years and begin on July 1, 2024*.

In addition to your contact information, you will be asked to provide your CV and answer the three questions below to demonstrate your interest in experience, expertise, and commitment to volunteering on a CAPCSD committee. Each question has a 100-word limit.

  • What lived and professional experiences do you have relevant to CAPCSD’s mission and vision, and how will you use them to bring CAPCSD forward?
  • Do you have specific activities (i.e., evidence) from your professional life, CAPCSD or otherwise, that speak to you being a good fit for the Academic Affairs Committee?
  • How will you balance committee activities with your other professional duties and commitments? What time and effort can you commit to participate in the work of the committee?

*Note that although the term begins July 1, 2024, Conference Planning Committee member obligations begin in June 2024.

Academic Affairs Committee

The work of the Academic Affairs Committee is to monitor trends and address issues impacting the academic preparation of speech-language pathologists and audiologists and make recommendations to the Board. The Academic Affairs Committee will also support the advancement of research, scholarship, and service by coordinating the CAPCSD scholarship application and review process.

We are looking for one (1) audiologist and one (1) speech-language pathologist.

What kind of time commitment can I expect?
Academic Affairs Committee members are expected to participate in monthly virtual meetings and accomplish tasks associated with the committee's mission. The time commitment between meetings varies based on the task at hand.

Desired Qualifications
The Academic Affairs Committee seeks members such as Chairs, Program Directors, Graduate Coordinators, Clinic Directors, Faculty, Deans, and Provosts.

Admissions Committee

The Admissions Committee has played a significant role in (1) the formation, development, and ongoing success of the centralized application service (CSDCAS) and (2) providing resources that advance admissions procedures, practices, and outcomes in the CSD fields.

We are looking for two (2) audiologists and three (3) speech-language pathologists.

What kind of time commitment can I expect?
This is a working committee. Members can anticipate attending 1-2 meetings per month with some monthly offline work. The anticipated workload, including meeting attendance, is approximately 3-5 hours monthly. The committee helps prepare presentations, execute the CSDCAS Open Data Initiative, represent CSDCAS at conferences, and provide valuable content and feedback across the admissions space. Within the general charge, committee members must suggest and advance specific priorities and activities for the committee.

Desired Qualifications
Interested candidates must meet the following required qualifications and be willing to carry out the duties of the CSDCAS committee as outlined below.

  • An appointment at a CAPCSD member program.
  • A working knowledge of graduate admissions, including the student applicant perspective.
  • The ability to network with professional peers and serve in a mentorship role.

Clinical Education Committee

The Clinical Education Committee members participate in developing and promoting accessible, evidence-based resources advancing best practices in clinical education. Committee members will be able to join a welcoming and committed network of colleagues from across the discipline who are committed to improving educational opportunities for future audiologists and speech-language pathologists.

We are looking for two (2) audiologists and two (2) speech-language pathologists.

What kind of time commitment can I expect?
Clinical Education Committee members participate in regular virtual meetings and allocate adequate time to engage in independent and collaborative work to plan and develop clinical educator resources. Overall time commitment varies based on the task at hand but is managed in a way that is sustainable for volunteer committee members. Committee work is supported by CAPCSD staff who are dedicated to the successful implementation of CAPCSD initiatives.

Desired Qualifications
The Clinical Education Committee seeks members such as Chairs, Program Directors, Graduate Coordinators, Clinic Directors, Faculty, Deans, and Provosts.

  • Expertise in and commitment to evidence-based practices in clinical education in audiology and speech-language pathology.
  • Experience in developing and/or disseminating learning resources supporting clinical education.
  • Interest and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues to accomplish committee work.

Conference Planning Committee

 

Conference Planning Committee (CPC) members plan CAPCSD's largest annual event. If you have a passion for curriculum, administration, teaching, clinical education, or other aspects of working in a university CSD department, please consider applying your enthusiasm to CPC.

We are looking for one (1) audiologist and two (2) speech-language pathologists.

What kind of time commitment can I expect?
CPC members attend an in-person planning meeting in June to begin planning the next year's conference. Committee members are expected to participate in regular virtual meetings to accomplish tasks associated with the conference, such as speaker invites, reviewing submitted proposals, and managing logistics at the event.

The time commitment varies based on the task at hand.

  • Terms officially begin July 1, 2024, but orientation, training, and the planning meeting will occur in June 2024.
  • CPC members must attend a three-day planning meeting in Atlanta, GA, in June 2024, to participate in planning the 2025 Annual Conference. (airfare and lodging are provided).
  • CPC members attend the conference to provide onsite support for the conference, academies, and pre-conference sessions. (airfare and lodging are provided)

Desired Qualifications
Experience as content matter experts or in continuing education logistics, such as state conventions, are especially valued in the selection process.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee

 

The DEI Committee members participate in developing and promoting accessible, evidence-based resources to support an equal work environment for faculty and ensure the success of all students.

We are looking for one (1) Audiologist.

What kind of time commitment can I expect? 
DEI committee members are expected to participate in monthly virtual meetings and allocate time to plan and develop DEI resources to support CSD students, staff, and faculty. Committee work is supported by CAPCSD staff who are dedicated to the successful implementation of CAPCSD initiatives. Overall, time commitment varies based on the task at hand. However, the average commitment is 1-3 hours per month.

Desired Qualifications
The DEI Committee seeks members such as Chairs, Program Directors, Graduate Coordinators, Clinic Directors, Faculty, Deans, and Provosts.

  • Expertise in diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and belonging in the academic setting and/or service delivery.
  • A commitment to developing fair and ethical policies and procedures in CSD admissions and education.
  • A commitment to promoting equity and inclusion of BIPOC, low-income, first-generation learners, and other under-represented groups in CSD.

Honors and Awards Committee

 

Members of the Honors and Awards Committee seek to identify those individuals who are directly promoting our mission, vision, and core values. The committee wants to ensure that the individuals represent the advancement of higher education programs.

We are looking for one (1) audiologist and one to two (1-2) speech-language pathologists.

What kind of time commitment can I expect? 
Members of this committee will need to be available to work with committee members virtually monthly as they review and prepare for the Honors and Awards process, review nominations for the various honors and awards, and help prepare the presentation for the membership honoring the awardees. The Honors and Awards committee will also work with CAPCSD staff to promote the Honors and Awards nominations process.

Desired Qualifications
The Honors and Awards Committee seeks members such as Chairs, Program Directors, Graduate Coordinators, Clinic Directors, Faculty, Deans, and Provosts. A willingness to work and develop rapport with committee members. Extensive knowledge of CAPCSD and its mission, vision, and core values.

Interprofessional Education/Interprofessional Practice (IPE/IPP) Committee

 

Members of the IPE/IPP Committee should have a passion for interprofessional practice (IPP), educating the next generation of providers about IPP, networking with colleagues around this topic, and developing materials and resources for members/member programs.

We are looking for three (3) audiologists and three (3) speech-language pathologists.

What kind of time commitment can I expect? 
IPE/IPP members are expected to participate in monthly virtual meetings to accomplish tasks associated with the committee's mission. These include creating materials to promote IPE/IPP and innovative programming to build capacity and networking around IPE/IPP for member programs. The time commitment between meetings varies based on the task at hand.

Desired Qualifications
Experience as content matter experts in Interprofessional Practice and Education are especially valued in the selection process. We are especially committed to diversifying our committee representation and welcome applications from members in minority serving institutions. We also welcome applications from individuals in leadership and administrative positions (Clinic Director, Chair, Associate Deans, Deans) in a university setting.

Membership Committee

 

The Membership Committee will actively engage in the development of innovative ways to connect with individuals of member programs, evaluate member needs, and respond to member program’s interests and concerns. The committee ensures members are informed about current and developing issues in the profession, facilitates professional conversations, promotes a sense of community among CSD professionals, and advances the profession and members’ professional development through website and social media interfaces.

We are looking for two (2) audiologists and one (1) speech-language pathologist.

What kind of time commitment can I expect?
Membership Committee members are expected to participate in monthly virtual meetings and allocate time to support individual members and member programs. Committee work is supported by CAPCSD staff who are dedicated to the successful implementation of CAPCSD initiatives. Overall, time commitment varies based on the task at hand. However, the average commitment is 1-3 hours per month.

Desired Qualifications
The Membership Committee CAPCSD seeks members such as Chairs, Program Directors, Graduate Coordinators, Clinic Directors, Faculty, Deans, and Provosts.

  • Capable of assessing current member needs while anticipating future demands

Nominations Committee

 

Members of the Nominations Committee are critical in supporting the organization's mission, vision, and core values. This committee helps direct the future of CAPCSD by vetting applications for CAPCSD elected positions and recommending a slate of officers to the CAPCSD Board.

We are looking for one (1) audiologist and one (1) speech-language pathologist.

What kind of time commitment can I expect? 
Members of this committee will need to be available to work with committee members virtually monthly as they review and prepare for the nomination process, review nominations for the eligible board positions, and recommend the selected slate of officers to the board. The Nominations committee will also work with CAPCSD staff to promote the Nominations process.

Desired Qualifications
The Nominations Committee seeks individuals with experience in academic leadership such as Chairs, Program Directors, Clinic Directors, Graduate Coordinators, Faculty, Deans, Provosts, and other academic leadership roles. A willingness to work and develop rapport with committee members. Extensive knowledge of CAPCSD and its mission, vision, and core values.

Online Professional Development Committee

 

The Online Professional Development Committee members participate in developing and promoting online education related to issues in communication sciences and disorders and higher education. Through your volunteer work with CAPCSD, you will have the opportunity to join a welcoming and committed network of colleagues from across the discipline who are committed to the betterment of your colleagues across the country.

We are looking for one (1) audiologist and one (1) speech-language pathologist.

What kind of time commitment can I expect? 
Online Professional Development Committee members are expected to participate in regular virtual meetings and allocate time to plan and develop webinars. They are also expected to share responsibilities in moderating webinar events. Their work is supported by CAPCSD staff who are dedicated to the successful implementation of CAPCSD initiatives. Overall time commitment varies based on the task at hand but is managed in a way that is sustainable for volunteer committee members.

Desired Qualifications
The Online Professional Development Committee seeks members such as Chairs, Program Directors, Graduate Coordinators, Clinic Directors, Faculty, Deans, and Provosts. Expertise in and commitment to online professional development related to communication sciences and disorders in higher education.
