Scholarships

scholarshipawardeesThe Council has a long history of supporting student education via scholarships. These awards have targeted both prospective professionals and academics in audiology, speech-language pathology and hearing/speech/language science.

Submission dates for the 2017 scholarship cycles are listed below. The scholarship programs are open to all CAPCSD member programs.


 

Plural Research Scholarship Application

Submissions Opened: September 1, 2016
Submissions Closed: November 1, 2016
Presented in honor of Dr. Sadanand Singh, the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) promotes research by students in Communication Sciences and Disorders. In support of this goal, Plural Publishing has generously agreed to fund two scholarships to support graduate student research. There are two award categories: one Masters/AuD level award intended for Masters/AuD level students pursuing research in speech-language pathology or audiology and one doctoral-level award intended for Ph.D. students pursuing research in audiology, speech-language pathology, or speech-language-hearing sciences. Award amount: One $3,000 scholarship per award category. This scholarship program is open to all CAPCSD member programs.

Awards were announced in early-March.

 


 

Frances J. Laven Scholarship Application

Submissions Opened: October 1, 2016
Submissions Closed: January 5, 2017
Presented in honor of Frances Laven, the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) promotes service by students in Communication Sciences and Disorders. In support of this goal, CAPCSD has agreed to fund one student scholarship to recognize exemplary student service. This award is intended for graduate students in a professional program (Masters or AuD) who have shown exemplary service. Examples of service may include, but are not limited to, community service, service to the department or university, or service to the greater discipline. Award amount: One $5,000 scholarship. This scholarship program is open to all CAPCSD member programs. A completed application requires a nomination letter from a faculty mentor (clinical or academic faculty), signed by the department chair. Only one nomination per CAPCSD member program is accepted.

Award will be announced in late-March.

 


 

PhD Scholarship Application

Submissions Open: November 1, 2016
Submissions Closed: February 1, 2017
The Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) is committed to addressing the Ph.D. shortage in Communication Sciences and Disorders, specifically the Ph.D. To this end, CAPCSD will address a salient factor influencing the Ph.D. pipeline: time to degree completion. CAPCSD announces a scholarship program for Ph.D.* students who are focused on an academic career in Communication Sciences and Disorders. CAPCSD will award up to 10 scholarships of $20,000 for each successful scholarship awardee. These scholarships are intended for those students who have advanced to candidacy (ABD). This scholarship program is open to all CAPCSD member programs. Only one applicant per CAPCSD member program is accepted.

* CAPCSD welcomes applications from ABD students working toward any research doctoral degree, typically a Ph.D.

Awards will be announced in mid-April.
